Which Style Of Wedding Photography Is Right For You?

Your wedding will be one of the most special, and certainly most photographed days of your life. Because of this, one of your key wedding decisions will be the photographer you choose. The photographer and style you choose can not only affect the look of your album, but also the flow of your wedding day!. Be sure that you find the right photographer by understanding the following categories of wedding photography.

“Traditional” or “Classic” Photography
This style of wedding photography is probably what you’ve seen most: poses are very formal, staged, and consist of people standing in a number of configurations with the wedding party and family. Bride, groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen, family, and other honored guests gather, usually after the ceremony, to pose for formal photographs. The photographer often has a checklist of shots to get, and once those are finished, the subjects are free to return to the rest of the guests. While you can feel secure that you will get all of the posed pictures you want with this style of wedding photographer, sometimes these photos can lack spontaneity.

Photo-journalistic Wedding Photography
Recently, this style of photography has become more popular. Photojournalism is telling, through photos, the story of the day. Therefore, the photographer with this style will strive to convey the series of events during the day through photography. This style of photography is far less formal, and while the photographer will likely capture key moments common to all weddings, he or she will not intercede to stage photos to ensure that everyone has their picture taken. Also, many of the photos will be candid, so people may not know their picture is being taken at the time..

Contemporary Wedding Photography
This style ultimately reflects the artistic point of view of the photographer more than either traditional or photo-journalistic photography. This style differs from traditional photography because groups are not gathered and arranged in formal poses; however, it differs from photo-journalistic photography because the photographer does intercede with lighting and grouping to take pictures that are not candid.Unlike either, the photographer’s artistic side will show more, and creative lighting and grouping can dominate the look of the photos. While the photography can be fun, the look of the photos will be neither spontaneous nor traditional, so the photographer’s point of view can take center stage. Time away from the guests for the posed photos can be a drawback of this style.

Some Photographers are quite versatile and incorporate a mixture of different styles into their photography. A good example is Hampshire wedding photographer, Cooper Photography
