Reviewing Greeting Cards And Its Growth

greeting cards

Greeting cards evolved from being sent by the Egyptians and Chinese as a way to spread goodwill, to being sent in observance of holidays. Unfortunately, they were handmade and not everyone was able to afford the luxury of sending a card because they were very expensive.

Sending a greeting card increased in popularity in the 1850s, mainly due to the invention of the postage stamp and commercial printing, thus allowing people to send birthday cards and many other cards, all around the world.

Sending a card to someone is not just limited to a birthday greeting, as they are used for everything from birthdays to religious ceremonies or even just to remind someone that they are loved. There are two major companies that manufacture greeting cards; Hallmark and American Greetings. These two companies offer cards to fit pretty much any situation or occasion and they include enough different illustrations and themes that you are sure to find one that fits your needs.

Remember when you were young and you handmade those cards that your mom loved simply because you made them? That is still an option today. With the increase in the popularity of craft supply stores, it has become fairly easy to make your own cards that look quite professional. Now you can say “happy birthday to you” in several different ways. You can purchase the scrapbook style card-making supplies at almost any store and they have so many themes available you will find out least one, and probably several that you just have to have; all of which will convey your special birthday greeting.

Now, thanks to the internet, sending a birthday greeting to someone has become even easier. It is amazing how many different sites there are that relate to electronic greeting options. These greeting cards are shown in a huge selection of styles, types and attitudes. You can choose from sweet and sappy to funny and sarcastic, with a whole lot more in between. Online greeting cards have become a huge business; some of the sites offer free greeting cards while others charge for the service. There are some that will let you send a greeting for free if you agree that they can include their advertising with it or they may offer some of the e cards for free. If you want to send a nicer, more detailed card, then some sites will insist that you become a member.
