How To Select Great Wedding Photographers

Picking the right wedding photographer is essential to a successful wedding. Once your memories have faded these photographs will be a reminder of your beautiful day. This is why it is so important that you have a clear idea of what kind of pictures they want before they even meet with the wedding photographer. This will help you know if the wedding photographer will give you what you want.

Do not book a photographer over the phone; you must see the wedding photographer’s portfolio. It is a necessity to see the wedding photographer’s portfolio. If you want strictly formal set ups and the photographer shows you several artistic photographs, it probably is not a good fit. Talk to a friend or family member about what you are looking for and invite them to the meeting. Talk to them about what you are looking for and they can help you see anything you might be missing. When choosing the type of photography you want, consider if you want casual shots of friends and family, or if you want only formal shots. Know the groups you want photographed, including photographs that might not include the wedding party or family. Are all your old work friends coming who you haven’t seen since you left? Is your college roommate coming? These are all pictures to keep in mind.

When looking at the photos, try to imagine yourself in the photographs. If these were one your wall, would you be happy? Look for variety. Look for shots far away and close up. Are all the photos far away? Check the edges and background in the photographs and make sure the set ups are clean even. Take photographs you like in to show your photographer and see how they compare to their portfolio.

Make sure the wedding photographer is qualified and find out their experience. If the wedding photographer has LBIPP, ABIPP or FBIPP after their name then they are professionally qualified. Find out if they have worked at your venues before and ask about options if it turns out your wedding is on a rainy day. Make sure to ask if the wedding photographer has Professional Indemnity insurance cover in case something goes wrong with your pictures and they need to be retaken.
