Does someone you know have an anniversary coming up, a new baby on the way or perhaps starting a new job? If so, then send them a greeting card, as they are not just used for a birthday greeting any longer. Prior to the 1850s, the cards were all handmade and fairly expensive so only the wealthy were able to afford them. After that time commercial printing and the postage stamp made it much easier to relay good wishes.

Of course, this is not to imply that handmade birthday cards are not appreciated, as we all know they are, especially the ones that children make for their moms. It just means that it is much easier to find and send cards these days, thus making it quicker to spread the good will around.

There is no limit to what you can create when you are designing your own greeting card, whether it is for a birthday greeting or any other occasion that is being celebrated. Many people enjoy making their cards and with the increase in craft supply stores, it is now even easier to make one that fits your needs exactly. Even if you believe that you do not have a creative bone in your body, the materials that are available today will allow you to create a masterpiece, or at least the recipient will think so.

Of course, with the increase in technological advances, the internet is another way to get that “happy birthday to you” out to your friends and family. It seems like new sites are popping up on a daily basis offering either ideas on how to state your sentiment or even get your greeting out there by sending electronic greeting or e cards.

If you have never done this, then open your favorite search engine and just type in free greeting cards, then sit back and watch the amazing number of sites that are returned. There is a greeting card that expresses pretty much any sentiment that you can think of on the web and many of them are free. However, you do need to check them carefully as some say they are free but you must also agree to accept their advertising along with the e card greeting. As well, other sites do have ones that are free to send but sometimes there is a very limited selection and to get more you have to join and become a member to have access to the best cards.
