Deciding on a Career

Deciding what you are going to do with the rest of your life is frightening. Mapping out your future for the next few decades is nerve racking. Honestly, almost no one knows what they will be doing fifty years from now or stick to their plans. Especially from high school to the end of college. Those are the years that people are pressured to decide what career path to follow and have to prepare for it. Whats funny is that during such a time of uncertainty, they have to be the most certain. Most people do change majors while in college and that is normal. Some people frown upon entering college with an undecided major, but in reality it can be one of the best choices to make.
It isn’t a bad idea to take a year off either. It’s a good idea to take a year off prior to a career or grad school. It will give you time to discover yourself and things you like to do. Perhaps it gives you a chance to travel and decide where you want to spend the next couple years. Some people may disagree and think you are throwing away a chance to get a head start. They are just misinterpreting the reason for taking a year off. Taking time before moving on with your life puts you ahead of other people because you can be confident in yourself and decision.
The most important thing when it comes to a career and rest of your life is being happy. You can’t follow a path that will only bring you success or money. Those things are obviously a big motive for a lot of people and great things to have, but they mean noting if you are unhappy. Working a miserable job will hinder you from enjoying life to the fullest. You don’t want to have to regret any decisions you make.
You can’t rush into choosing a career or life plan. Most people can never be sure that their decisions about their lives are fully made. Life changes unannounced all the time. Its vary unlikely you will ever be totally sure about anything. You just have to live your life to the fullest and do what’s best for you. Careers are about more than just money, it is about self fulfillment. It is your career, no one elses.
