Whether we are young or old we surely enjoy the atmosphere of Christmas. It is a special moment where we all forget the tough times that we have been through during the year and look forward to new starts. Christmas presently is celebrated by both Christian and non-Christian as a cultural festival and thats it.

As we are coming closer to the festivities I wish to take this occasion to speak more on this exciting festival.

Although Christmas is believed by many people as the birth of Christ, this is not really the case. Christmas was inspired by a pagan festival in the honor of the unconquerable sun God which was held on the 25th December. It is the Roman Catholic Church that chose to keep this pagan festival and to recognize it as the birth of Christ in order to draw people to the Christian faith. There is in fact no biblical account of the birth of Christ in December or whether we are required to keep his birthday.

In truth there is no religious significance to Christmas presently. What people consider nowadays is the exchange of gifts and the partying part. Retailers feeling the opportunity to have great sales have also added to the secularization of Christmas. With the way it is evolving we doubt that the new generation will one day remember that Christmas was once considered as a spiritual festival.

Indeed for numerous people Christmas is synonymous with Santa Claus, party in clubs and other joyful activities. People are more interested by the feel-good element that is connected with Christmas more than anything else. These reasons themselves are sufficient to attract people to the celebration of such a festival.
