Advice On Selecting Good Wedding Photographers

Choosing a wedding photographer is one of the most important parts of planning a wedding. Unlike the flowers which will wilt and the dresses that will be tucked away, the photographs will last forever. Have a list of what you are looking for before you meet the wedding photographer. These guidelines will help you know if a wedding photographer is a good pick for you.

Do not book a photographer over the phone; you must see the wedding photographer’s portfolio. The portfolio will help you see what kind of work they do compared to what you want. Talking with them will help them know what you want and help you understand what kind of work they do. Talk to a friend or family member about what you are looking for and invite them to the meeting. Show them your list of guidelines so they can follow them with you. Do you want formal photographs or casual ones? Maybe you want a mix of both, but you must have an idea before the meeting. Make a list of the groups you want to be photographed, including special photographs that might not involve the wedding party. Are all your old work friends coming who you haven’t seen since you left? Is your college roommate coming? If you forget photographs you want it will make the big day more stressful.

When looking at the photos, try to imagine yourself in the photographs. If these were the photos you took home, would you be happy? Variety is key. Look for shots far away and close up. Are all the photos far away? Look at the edges and background in the photographs to see if the wedding photographer has done a sloppy set up or if the set ups are clean and even. If you have photographs you like, take them in to show the photographer.

Make sure the wedding photographer is qualified and find out their experience. Find out if the wedding photographer is professionally qualified by looking for the letters LBIPP, ABIPP or FBIPP after their name. Ask about the unexpected. How will they handle your photographs if it snows? Are you okay with their ideas? Make sure to ask if the wedding photographer has Professional Indemnity insurance cover in case something goes wrong with your pictures and they need to be retaken.
